Last summer, François K. collaborated with Brazilian vocalist, Barbara Mendes and brought you "Awakening", classic, deep, jazzy masterpiece with gorgeous Brazilian vocals, and a full string ensemble, led an arranged by the legendary musical composer, arranger and musician Eumir Deodato. Terry Burrus, a born and raised New York musician, with a deep-rooted, diverse background in Jazz, Soul, Gospel, Electronic and Classical music contributed his signature keys and was the Associate Producer. The brothers Lars and Marek Bartkuhn alongside Jan 'Yannick' Elverfeld formed the Frankfurt based production team and label, Needs, in 1999. The trio has already carved a solid reputation amongst music lovers worldwide as one of the most promising production outfits from Germany. Their unique musical and organic deep house sound is one that subtly displays their widely spread musical influences, which include jazz and funk as well as soulful techno. After a handful of sought after releases on their own imprint (including highly acclaimed tracks such as "Brother", "Walkin' Thru Circles" and "Worlds" by Lars Bartkuhn under his Passion Dance Orchestra guise), Needs has rapidly become a synonym for soulful high quality music.
The A Side: Needs Remix is a classic sounding deep house journey in the characteristic atmospheric and soulful Needs style. Needs added some additional strings on top of Deodato's original string arrangement, while featuring some of Barbara Mendes' beautiful vocals. Kicking off with harmonies close to FK's original, the Needs Remix creates a moody, slightly darker vibe after the breakdown. Needs also composed an extra sing-along "wake up" hookline that can't fail to get under your skin.
The B Side: Needs Bodycheck is another lovely reinterpretation that impresses with the rich musicality that has became a signature of their work. Based on the heavy groove of their first mix this dub version captures a funky Calypso feeling including a super sweet melody and overall uplifting vibe. « Read Less
