Liverpool night club turned super-dance-brand Cream has just celebrated its 15th birthday. Founded by James Barton and Darren Hughes, the first Cream night was held at the ‘Nation’ night club, on 17th October 1992 with a crowd of 400 clubbers. DJ’s Fabio Paris and Paul Bleasdale played the first night, with Paul Bleasdale going on to be the long serving Cream resident, before he retired from DJing in 2002, when the weekly parties came to an end.
The club was originally set up as a no-frills room with a massive sound system and the finest musical talents. The DJ masterclass included Andy Weatherall, Sasha, Jeremy Healy, Pete Tong, and early DJ sets from the Chemical Brothers - all contributing the success of the club and the development of the early dance scene in the UK.
Cream today hosts parties and events all around the world, with its massively successful Cream@Amnesia night in Ibiza and the Creamfields festivals, considered by many to be the biggest such dance festivals in the world.
Founder James Barton considers the success of Cream is down to “honesty and a real dedication to what we do”. Though Liverpool has always been regarded as a city of massive musical influence, with it being named ‘Capital of Culture 2008′, he can be proud to have played a role.
