We are sad to announce that this Friday, 30th November, we will be closing the Dancetracks record store at 91 East 3rd Street, in the East Village of New York City. The shop has been at the heart of the dance music scene since it opened at the start of the 90’s. It became a magnet for DJs on the cutting edge of the underground movement, discovering new sounds and breaking records that went on to become classics.

We are proud that it has played such an important role in the development of the music we all love.

Of course, we have seen first hand the way technology has changed the music industry. We embraced these changes when we started developing Dancetracks Digital — before iTunes was a household name and before Serato and the CDJ became the DJ’s platform of choice. By taking advantage of the new technologies and the progression of the Internet, we have been able to take everything that made the store special, and share it with people around the world. Dancetracks Digital has become a world leading download store and our customer base reads like a who’s who of dance music, with A list selectors downloading tracks from us every day.

With the closing of the store, we are entirely committed to the continued development of Dancetracks Digital and are very excited for what lies ahead. These are changing times within the music industry, and just as the shop was central to the early growth of the scene, Dancetracks Digital will continue to evolve and push the music forward.

We thank you for your continued support,

IJ Catling
