We have a winner ! After two months and over 400 excellent remixes of Dirtybird Record’s Rocket Surgery EP ‘Dum’ we are very pleased to announce the winners of the contest. We would really like to thank everyone who took part and created their own remix. We hope that you all had fun working on your remixes.
Justin Martin - “Wow, I was surprised at how many people got involved with this competition! We had a great time going through all of the entries and discovering everyone’s wildly different interpretations of the track.”
Claude VonStroke - “I really appreciate that over 400 people took time out of their busy schedules to remix our music. It makes me feel good that we have such a dedicated fan base!”
The remixes covered all genres from house, techno, minimal, breaks, drum and bass and more … even some rock! Some remixes were short and punchy, whilst others went for marathon 10 min big room bass builders!
Christian Martin - “I was impressed at the wide range of genres that people explored. We heard everything from epic trance to dubstep!

The final decision on picking the winners came down to Claude, Justin and Christian, who listened to every single track using the following criteria for judging: Tightness, how tight and sharp the track sounded when played back, on any system.
Sound quality, the final mix down and mastering quality, volume levels and sound characteristics. Releasability, would this be a track the Dirtybird crew would play out, and more importantly release. Original use of samples, how well are the original parts used in the remix, does it retain the characteristics of the original.
So, with out further ado, we are pleased to announce the winners of the Dirtybird Remix Contest:
1st Place - Murar Cristian from Cluj, Romania. Age 24 years old.
2nd Place - Oscar Schulze from Amsterdam, Netherlands. Age 43 years old.
3rd Place - Sander Dennis and Robert McCloskey from San Francisco, USA. Aged 25 and 30 years old respectively.
Many congratulations to Murar for taking the top spot. His remix has been added to the Rocket Surgery EP. Here is what Christian, Justin, and Claude, had to say about Murar’s winning remix:
“We chose Murar’s ‘ICS remix’ for a number of reasons. Its sound quality was head and shoulders above most other entries. Although it was not the most complex or outrageous entry, it was by far the tightest. Also, it contained a number of surprising and creative breaks, all the way through to the end of the track.”
Runners up, Oscar, Sander and Robert also deserve applause for taking the 2nd and 3rd spots, in a tightly fought contest.
“The 3rd place remix demonstrated a ton of creativity with the theme as well. We were all impressed by how far the remix evolved as it progressed - it never even came close to repeating itself musically.”
Claude VonStroke - “I can’t wait to drop the winning remix at my upcoming gigs this weekend! Circus (Liverpool), Back to Basics (Leeds), then back to Montreal on Sunday for the Picnique Electronique..”
